Review: Slip into something comfortable and prepare to get sexed up by this new one from Newcastle's Six Nine Records. It features tracks by 3TOB, an outfit originally born in 2019 by band members of Tone and earlier in the year they dropped the sultry hip-hop, soul and r&b album Trading Places. Those tracks are "My Baby' and 'Love Will Find Its Way' and neither were on the album and have been streaming only up to now. They are a timeless fusion of heart-melting harmonies and silky beats for those loved up late night sessions.

Review: French disco singer Maeva Borzakian delivers a stupefying pair of electro-soul tracks to Six Nine, expanding on early feedings on 80s soul and Anglo-Saxon pop for a fresher modern twist. Raised in Paris among jazz musicians, Borzakian rejected the tutelage of her family in favour of self-taught disco productions and performances, which led to her building a career as a resident performer in her home city's many clubs and bars, studding the casts of over 20 different band projects so far. This limited UK press bottles the new and exclusive track 'Hey You' - a synth tomming wake-up slap that exhorts the bad actor in an earlier, controlling relationship - and a T Groove remix of 'You're My Ecstasy', an emotive loller with a finito feel and a drive towards empowerment.

Review: For their latest release, Six Nine Records has taken a deep dive into the back catalogue of Aussie nu-disco duo Confection, an outfit who released a wealth of (largely overlooked) cuts throughout the last decade. 'Delectable U' first featured on the pair's CD-only 2012 album Private Conversations and features core members Joshua Bageley and Juanita Tippins in full-on revivalist 80s soul mood - all rubbery bass guitar, glossy FM synth sounds, eyes-closed lead vocals and slow-motion S.O.S Band beats. This time round, it comes backed with a fresh remix courtesy of T-Groove that subtly speeds up the beats, thickens the bassline, showcases the band's Chic-style guitar licks and drags the track further towards nu-disco dancefloors. Simply superb!

Review: Yuki "Monolog" Kanesaka is a soul, jazz and r&b producer who is based between Boston and Tokyo, and Yuki "T-Groove" Takahashi is widely regarded as one of Japan's best remixes. Together they are Golden Bridge and they make timeless soul sounds steeped in magical musicianship and lush production. Elements of greats like Herbie Hancock and the Mizell Brothers loom large over these tunes which come from their eponymous 2019 album. 'Wouldn't Be The Same' opens in funky and stepping soul style with neat bass riffs. The B-side is a cover of Tony Etoria's 'I Can Prove It' that swells the heart with its upbeat grooves, yearning vocal and rich strings.

Review: Floridian musician Tedi Robinson specialises in what he calls "mellowfunkism" - a smooth, colourful, Prince-influenced take on retro-futurist soul that various draws inspiration from jazz-funk, '80s groove, contemporary R&B and P-funk. It's this attractive, effortlessly soulful trademark sound that's showcased on Robinson's second Six Nine Music "45" as Son of Pearl. Robinson's dazzling bass and smooth vocals take pride of place on A-side 'Wonderful', alongside head-nodding, hip-hop style beats, glistening guitars and twinkling electric piano sounds. Over on the reverse, 'The Other Side of Nowhere' boasts all manner of kaleidoscopic, P-funk-influenced synth sounds, crunchy R&B drums and more elastic bass courtesy of Robinson, whose vocals are once again superb.

Review: Winfree's 'Friday Night,' a catchy 7" on Six Nine, delivers a fresh take on soul with a modern twist. Side-1 features the T-groove remix of 'Friday Night,' blending a slamming slow groove with funk and electro complete with vocoder work that nods to Zapp. Side-2's 'The Way She Makes It Bounce' dives into early electro sounds, perfect for low-rider music enthusiasts, channeling the spirit of Roger Troutman. This release captures the classic vibes while infusing it with contemporary elements, making it a track to check out for fans of both old-school and modern funk. Both sides, needless to say, are proper party starters.
